Davis Announces $4.65M Property Purchase

Wilkesboro-based Steve C. Davis Inc., a FedEx ground contractor trucking company, announced its recent purchase of almost 19 acres near Piedmont Triad International Airport in Guilford County for $4.65 million.

“Plans are to maintain the administrative offices of the company in Wilkesboro and to develop commercial and retail establishments on the newly acquired vacant land,” said Steve Davis, president and CEO of Steve C. Davis Inc.

The company employs 72 people, including 10 in Wilkes County.

“The existing office complex on the premises will serve as the flagship location for all of the company’s ground operations nationwide,” said Davis.

The property is in six parcels on the east side of Sandy Ridge Road in Colfax, bordering Interstate 40 on the north and the N.C. Farmers Market on the south. It was purchased from Bessemer Improvement Co. and is near the Amazon distribution center and both the FedEx freight terminal and ground terminal in Greensboro.

“Expanding to this location will allow us to reduce costs and streamline fueling and maintenance operations.” Housing all of the services in one location also lowers risks of service failures increases fleet efficiency, he added.

Davis said he plans to add trailers and power units and expand the company’s customer base and service offerings. The property’s close proximity to Interstate 40 facilitates this growth, he explained.

He said the development plan is expected to be completed in 36-48 months.

Steve C. Davis Inc. operates 50 trucks out of FedEx ground terminals in Greensboro, Charlotte, Marietta, Ga. Davis said it’s the largest FedEx contractor based in Greensboro and offers two-day service to anywhere in the contiguous U.S.

He said the purchase comes at an opportune time considering recent growth in delivery services and other supply chain logistics.

Davis said his company is hiring drivers and offers up to $110,000 per year.
